March on the Walks of Peace in the Karst and the conclusion of the project the Eye of Karst arrangement of the carst Cave Pečinka

30.03.2014

Municipality of Miren-Kostanjevica, Tourist Society Cerje

The purpose of the Paths of Peace of the Karst is to commemorate the events of the Isonzo Front and the suffering that local inhabitants had to endure in the clash between the Austro-Hungarian Empire and Italy. Abundant remains of the bloody conflict can be found in several places along the historical paths.
The cross-country walk starts at 10:00, departing from the Memorial to the Defenders of Slovenian Homeland in Cerje. Participants can choose between two paths that cross the diverse karst terrain: the first is 7.5km long and the second is 12.5km. Members of the 13 13 Society from Bovec will make the event more interesting by appearing in WWI army uniforms.

The objective of the Oko Krasa (The Eye of the Karst) project is to present the use of natural heritage during WWI. It aims to connect cultural heritage and natural resources with the development of tourism, thus diversifying the rural economy and ensuring prosperity in the countryside.

This project in the community of Miren-Kostanjevica will show for the first time how the caves were equipped during the First World War and how people used natural features during the war in order to survive.
