On Saturday 30 July 2016, a ceremony marking 100 years since the Vršič pass tragedy was held at the Russian Chapel, which was built in memory of the deceased. At the invitation of President of the Republic of Slovenia Borut Pahor, who was the honorary sponsor of the 100th anniversary, the honorary guest, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, attended the ceremony. Presidents Pahor and Putin each held an honorary speech.
The event was of a pious nature, conveying a message of peace and necessity for dialogue to preserve stability.
