Commemoration at the Russian Chapel

27.07.2014

Slovenia - Russia Society

For over two decades, a memorial ceremony at the Russian Chapel in Vršič has been commemorating the tragic deaths of Russian POWs who died in an avalanche while building a road over the mountain pass in 1916. This traditional event has become a symbol of Slovenian-Russian friendship and is regularly attended by the highest political, business, religious and cultural representatives from both countries.

This year, the ceremony at the Russian Chapel will be held on Sunday, 27 July 2014. The Slovenian Prime Minister, Alenka Bratušek, will be its honorary patron. Expected to attend are a high delegation of Russian Orthodox Church and delegations of Duma and Federations Council. The ceremony will be enriched by a performance of Pisma s fronte (Letters from the Front) by Ljubljana Vocal Academy, Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra and Imago Sloveniae.
